KTM
Intercity
The
main national railway line, running along the length of the peninsular and
linking major towns from Singapore in the south to Bangkok in the north.
KLIA Transit
Links Stesen Sentral with the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, stopping at
three satellite towns - Bandar Tasik Selatan, Putrajaya/Cyberjaya and Salak
Tinggi - en route. Trains depart at every half hour from both points and the
journey from one end to the other takes 36 minutes.
PUTRA line
An intracity light rail transit (LRT) system connecting major parts of Kuala
Lumpur. Provides access to another LRT network, the Star-LRT, via a connecting
stop at Masjid Jamek.
KLIA Express
Provides 28-minute, non-stop access to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
As added convenience, travellers can check in and out at the Kuala Lumpur City
Air Terminal (KLCAT) in Stesen Sentral. Trains depart every 15 minutes on the
hour from both ends.
KTM Komuter
Provides rail links between Kuala Lumpur and satellite towns to the north, west
and south.
KL Monorail
The monorail connects Kuala Lumpur's major attractions, and will stop in the
shopping mall at KL Sentral once this is ready.
But Stesen
Sentral functions as more than just the nation's railway hub. It is also home
to the Kuala Lumpur City Air Terminal (KLCAT), which acts as an extension of
KLIA in the heart of the city. KLCAT is located opposite the ticket counter for
trains to KLIA, just one level above the platform for KLIA Express and KLIA
Transit trains that ply the route from Stesen Sentral to KLIA.
KLCAT has been
awarded the international address XKL by the International Air Transport
Association (IATA), allowing passengers to check-in and check-out at this city
terminal. With KLCAT, Stesen Sentral has effectively become a gateway not just
to destinations within Malaysia, but also to the rest of the world.
KL Sentral is
located strategically so as to be accessible via five major highways in Kuala
Lumpur - from the city centre, the north, the south, from Bangsar as well as
from the neighbouring town of Petaling Jaya. Within KL Sentral itself, three
road loop systems have been built, ensuring convenient and speedy access.
